From the start of the election campaign, things didn’t feel right. The mood of the people didn’t reflect the good shape of our community, the good state of the economy is in, nor the fact we in Australia escaped a recession and mass unemployment. In fact, unemployment is exceptionally low. So way the strange mood?
Well, now that the campaign has run its course, the election day has been and gone and neither of the major political parties have won the right to govern in their own right, is there any way to explain what happened.
I put it down to Masterchef. My call is that what we have witnessed is the Masterchef election in which people pick their favourite regardless of talent or skills and hope to God that the others all get voted off.
The result is that good people such as Maxine McKew, who deserved another term, was voted off for no real reason except more people chose John Alexander as their ‘favourite’.
The whole thing was too bizarre. Now we have three or four independent federal members demanding concessions and effectively dictating to the rest of us. As they say in Alice in Wonderland, things are just getting weirder and weirder.
